Cyanobacteria

Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, can be found in the Belleisle Watershed. It usually blooms in warm, slow moving water. There is an advisory in place at Urquharts Cove because there has been a bloom there in the past.

In 2019 and 2020 the BWC has partnered with ACAP Saint John and six other watershed groups to gather data on cyanobacteria. The data collected will help us understand cyanobacteria toxins, the risk to humans and animals, and why benthic mats are forming. Visit http://www.acapsj.org/cyano for more information!
